Saxe Point Has two different dive options.
The Cove is an easy shore dive that is available during any but the largest tidal exchanges. It is relatively a flat rocky bottom with some large rock formations scattered about in the cove. This site is often used by instructors teaching basic Open Water classes due to the lack of hazzards and the general protection from current and weather. There is a path to the cove next to the restrooms located on the right just before entering the parking lot. Entry is easy.
The Point is a bit more difficult to access. Park in the parking lot and head out to the point to the left of the largest Rock and find a way down the rocks to the water. The bottom drops off into short walls immediately, about 30' deep, with overhangs and lots of kelp. You can follow the rocks, walls and ledges all the way around to the cove to the right or turn at any point and head out the way you came.
At both sites, the bottom may be covered in leafy kelp during the summer which offers so much protection that it can be difficult to find critters. There is a variety of life here and is worth the dive.
