Alki Boat Launch
Hamilton Viewpoint Park, Seattle, WA
Type: Saltwater
Difficulty: Intermediate, Advanced, Technical
Entry: Moderate Shore Entry , Boat Access
Attractions: Small Wreck, Debris, Structures, Boulder Pile / Shelves

You can either dive the North side of the dock and look for the pilings left over from the old saw mill or the South side to treasure hunt for bottles and other mementos.

To the North: If you enter at the boat launch and turn left, either surface swim or descend and follow the bottom contour to the point at the north end of the park where there is a large cement fishing platform. At that point but before you go into the cove that runs along the road there is a VERY steep grade to about 80ft that is covered with boulders from the retaining wall, old pilings and at the bottom there are a couple small fishing boats sitting upside down. There is an old scaffolding there at the bottom too. Swim around into the cove thatís next to the road and check out the remains of the old saw millís pilings that are scattered all over in 15-30fsw. Keep in mind, the bottom drops of very steep around this point but current isnít bad. There are some deep trenches that run from the point northward that drop quickly to about 160í. Keep an eye out for fishermen on that platform. Great night dive!

To the South: If you enter the water at the Boat Launch and take a right, there is a short break water that is fun to snorkel on high tides. Below the breakwater is a predominately sandy bottom with the exception of some debris like those mentioned above. You can actually swim it all the way over to Cove 3. It is a nice change of pace to the usual Cove 2, though not as dynamic of a dive site.
