Scenic Beach State Park lacks any remarkable reef structure but it has easy access from the cement stairs or anywhere along the quarter mile of shoreline.
What is does have is a gently sloping bottom with minimal current making it a great site for entry level divers or those who want to test new gear. The shoreline is covered with cobble rock and transitions to eel grass around 20' deep. From there a sandy bottom slopes to beyond 70' deep. Sand dwelling creatures such as sea pens, moon snails, sea stars, spot shrimp and some species of nudibranchs can be found here, along with the occasional flatfish. During high tides the cobblestone shallows harbor small creatures for those with sharp eyes.
