Possession Point Reef
Whidbey Island, Clinton, Washington
Aquatic Life: 5
Boulder Pile / Shelves
The Possession Point Reef is made of multiple rocky "fingers-like" projections on the southern tip of Whidbey Island that cascade down from about 30 ft to well over 130 ft in a series of rugged walls and ledges with sheer drop-offs in places creating absolutely stunning terrain. There are many nooks and crevices to explore for octopus. Many nudibranchs and sponges can be found nestled on the silty walls, while schools of perch pass over rockfish, kelp greenling and lingcod.
This site is subject to heavy current and a moderate amount of boat traffic. The fingers run very deep making a good site for tech divers. Please watch your bottom time and use a live boat. Many good local dive charters frequent this area. Visibility is affected by nearby river runoff (the snohomish).
How to get there:
The Possession Point Reef (aka: Possession Point Fingers) is located on the southern tip of Whidbey Island. It can be found by the large cleared lawn area surrounding the southern-most building on the east side of Possession point. Multiple fingers extend just south of this location and should be easily recognizable from the water's edge.
