Boulder Pile / Shelves, Kelp Forest
Eagle Cove is a secluded shallow cove for a relaxing dive through kelp forests along bolder strewn bottom. If you enter the water and head left, you can follow the current around the small point in the bay and explore the cove to the east. Head to slightly deeper water to catch the current back.
Or head right and dive along the rocky shoreline to the west. The rocky coastline gives way to ledges and rocky substrate until about 50-60' where it turns to a sloping sandy bottom. Beware of the return current when venturing out around Eagle Point. Current always flows away from the cove at this point.
Currents always run clockwise through this cove south along the shore and then north along the mouth of the cove. Slack adjustment for Cattle Point are -1:17 before flood and +1:04 before ebb.
How to get there:
Eagle Cove is located on San Juan Island about 6 miles south of Friday Harbor right before the entrance to American Camp.
