Doe Island is a great site for learning to dive from kayaks or for a nearby adventure from Doe Bay. There are two beaches located on the island and the diving is similar all the way around the island. The bottom drops gradually as deep as you desire to go exploring the sponge encrusted rocky croppings surrounded by white sand. Expect to see LOTS of swimming and rock scallops, urchins, chitons and snails plus schools of rockfish and perch, greenling, gunnels and sculpin.
Doe Island is a marine park with primitive camping facilities. Current does not stop here so dive near slack and try to find the most protected side of the island. Beware of small boats and bull kelp. Stay close to the bottom.
How to get there:
Doe Island is located on the southern shore of the east side of Orcas Island in the Rosario Straight. It is 1/2 nautical mile from Doe Bay Resort where it can be reached by kayak.
