Description

Bell Island is a good dive site due to the accessibility during any current by diving the lee side of the island. Large ledges loaded with crevices cascade downward to about 90'. Search the crevices for the abundant life hidden within.

Special Restrictions:

Beware of swift currents and boat traffic. Dive the lee side of the island and make sure you don't get caught be the switching of the currents.
Current adjustments from San Jaun Channel
Slack before flood add 19 minutes
Slack before ebb add 15 minutes

How to get there:

Bell Island is a small island located between Orcas Island and Shaw Island in Wasp passage just east of Crane Island. You can choose which side of the island to dive on depending on the direction of the current. West side during a flood and east side during an ebb. The whole island is surrounded by similar structure.

We dove the western side of the island this time. Definitely a cool site with endless places to explore. Couldn't believe we didn't find an octo or wolfie. Also missed the rumored 60+ lb ling I've heard about for a few years now. Hope that girl is still around. Great dive for rockfish fans.

We did this dive in '98 with Star Fire Charters. It was a really nice. Pretty much the same experience as other sites in the San Juans.
