The reef begins quite close to the shoreline making it a popular club and class dive spot. The reef continues out toward the breakers where it becomes more dynamic. Unfortunately it is also a popular surf spot and usually pretty crowded, making for a dangerous situation if a diver had to surface for any reason. It is not recommended to venture into this area while surfers are present.
Leo Carrillo is a state beach offering the amenities of showers, secure parking and food on site.
Surf can pose difficulty for entry and exits. Surfing and Windsurfing hot spot so be cautious of where you ascend. Please check the weather when planning your dive. This site is exposed to southern swell, but the Channel Islands block much of the northern pacific storms.
How to get there:
Located at the intersection of Mulholland Hwy, and Hwy 1 at Leo Carrillo State Beach. Exit to the beach and pull off the small road leading to the parking lot to unload gear along the waterfront. The parking lot is on the other side of Hwy 1.
