Description

Harrison’s Reef boasts nearly a mile long reef lying approximately 200 yards off shore, outside the immense kelp bed which is visible from the surface. The site is full of life, especially on the outer edge of the reef, where you can expect to see lobster, sea bass, sheephead, opaleye, and rockfish among the kelp and invertebrate dotted rocks. The sand may reveal halibut, bat rays, and the typical small sand dwelling sharks. It is a long swim, but well worth the effort.

Special Restrictions:

Thick kelp and surf can pose difficulties during surface entries and exits so keep a reserve of air and plan on crossing the kelp beds underwater. Potential current outside the kelp.

Please check the weather when planning your dive. This site is exposed to southern swell, but the Channel Islands block much of the northern pacific storms.

How to get there:

Located at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Yerba Buena Rd. Park in the parking lot along the water. The reef lies out to the right (northeast). Kelp canopy should be visible from shore marking the reef.
