Snorkling, Beginner, Intermediate
Access: Difficult Shore Entry
Aquatic Life: 0
Boulder Pile / Shelves, Kelp Forest, Eel Grass Beds
This attractive reef begins directly off shore from the base of the staircase from Mesa Lane, about 50yards off shore. Youíll begin the dive over eel grass that soon turns to rocky substrate and kelp. On the outside of the kelp the reef drops off to about 40í. Youíll find the typical regional life: Perch, senoritas, rockfish, lingcod and cabezon and the occasional swell shark.
Beach access for divers is difficult. A long wooden staircase is located at the end of Mesa Lane. It is a difficult haul back up with scuba gear. Another option is Arroyo Burro, but it will require a long walk to the east along the beach to get to your dive destination. The site is fantastic for free divers as the hike isnít so tedious without scuba gear.
As with all dives in the area, beware of surf and currents. The reef near the stair case at Mesa Lane is a bit more protected than Arroro Burro.
How to get there:
Located west of the Santa Barbara Harbor on Cliff Dr near Arroro Burro County Park.
