Oil Drilling Station Pilings Structures,
Oil Platform Grace attracts advanced scuba divers that enjoy the prospect of spotting some large critters on their dive. The platform, once used to pump oil has been recommissioned as a fueling station and is available to scuba divers. It sits atop a massive network of pilings that drop down below 200’ and are covered with varieties of colorful sponges and large scallops. Visibility can be great since it is practically open water, there is not bottom to murk things up. All this leads to the increased chance of seeing something really cool like sunfish (mola-mola), blue sharks or yellow tail. Resident sea lions hunt perch, rockfish and bass that inhabit the pilings. Regardless of what appears you’ll have a great dive exploring the pilings.
Advanced due to depths, potential current and possible difficulty of entering the boat in swells. (NOTE: I have heard the pilings reach 330', please leave a comment if you know for sure).
How to get there:
You will need a boat to access this location which sits offshore from Santa Barbara between on a line between Ventura Marina and the Santa Cruz Channel Island. Contact a local dive charter for schedules and more information.
