Pipeline, Boulder Pile / Shelves
The left side of the beach has a pipeline extending from the old foundations of a small building on the shore. If you follow the pipeline to the end and tour to the north there are fields of metridium anemones on small boulders (often referred to as a separate dive site called Metridium Field). Sea life is plentiful including Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions and a huge variety of other life commonly found in Monterey Bay.
Breakwater Beach is where many of the local dive shops certify students. It can be a busy site on the weekend. Thick kelp beds and boat traffic are some things to consider at this site.
How to get there:
The Beach is at the intersection of Cannery Row and Foam streets. Walk down the path to the left side of the beach and enter the water near the foundation remains of an old building. The pipeline runs out directly from this point. There are two parallel pipes, the larger one is to the west. Parking is metered and strictly enforced. Two dive shops are within walking distance.
