The Breakwater is made up of rectangular stones making perfect hiding places for critters, and there are lots of them! The breakwater cascades downward to a flat sandy bottom where you can follow the edge of the breakwater on the outside of the bull kelp. You can expect to see all types of rockfish, greenling, gunnels, sculpin, wolf eels, octos, etc.
Depths range gradually from 20' to 80' at the end of the Breakwater, making it a great spot for all levels of divers. It also makes for a great night dive too!
Watch the weather and check with the dive shop for acceptable diving conditions. There can be surge and currents, especially toward the end of the breakwater.
This area is protected and no fishing or removal of marine life is allowed.
How to get there:
Ogden Point is located on Dallas Rd to the west side of Victoria Harbor (close to the Victoria-Port Angeles Ferry). From the Ferry Dock, follow Pendray/Quebec streets until you dead end into Montreal St. Turn Left and follow it until you reach Dallas and you're right in front of the break water.
From Victoria, follow Hwy 1 south until you reach Dallas Rd. Turn Right and drive a short way to the Breakwater.
You can enter the water at the beach and swim along the breakwater or walk to the bend in the breakwater and enter there.
Ogden Point Dive Shop is conveniently located at the Breakwater. They are friendly and have anything you might need.
