Misc. Clams  (Subclass Heterodonta)

A clam is a kind of mollusk that has a shell divided into two pieces called valves, in other words, a clam is a bivalve mollusk. The word "clam" has no real taxonomic significance in biology. However, the word can sometimes be used to mean any bivalve mollusk other than an oyster, mussel, or scallop, and that has a more-or-less oval shape. Clams have no head or eyes but they do have kidneys, a heart, a mouth, and an anus. They primarily feed on plankton and many live their entire life underground where only the siphon can be seen by SCUBA divers. They are eaten by starfish, snails and some sharks.
