Blennies  (Suborder: Blennioidei)

The name "Blenny" is an ambiguous common name applied to 6 different families of fish known as blennioids. They are typically a shy small, slender, bottom dwelling fish that can be found in or around crevices of reefs, buried in the substrate, or hidden in shells or other suitable hide away. Similarities that they often posses include large eyes, a blunt head commonly containing whisker-like cirri, and often a long continuos dorsal fin. Due to their small size, interesting habits and often very colorful and "cute" appearance, they are popular aquarium subjects.

This category is a catch-all for the various families and species of blennies.

Many other fish species are erroneously also called blennies.
