Wolf Eels  (Anarrichthys ocellatus)

Wolf Eels are actually not technically eels but closely related to blennies. They can grow to over 6 1/2', over 40 pounds (18.6 kg) and are found in the Northern Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Japan to Alaska and down to northern California. The adults appear grayish-blue, while younger ones are a rusty red color and juveniles are brightly spotted. They feed on crustaceans, sea urchins, mussels, clams and some fishes and readily take hand outs from SCUBA divers. Although not aggressive, care should be taken when attempting to feed or touch them as their jaws are powerful enough to crush crab and urchins and they have many sharp canine teeth.
