Eels  (Order Anguilliformes)

There are over 400 species of true eels, the most popular of which are the Moray eels comprising over 200 species. Although most eels are predatory, they are typically not aggressive toward humans and will attempt to flee if give the chance. However, SCUBA divers should be cautious as many eels come accostomed to being had fed by other divers and can unintentionally leave very nasty bites.

Many other fish are commonly referred to as eels by anglers and SCUBA divers such as wolf eels and monkey face eels, both which are actually fish that look like eels but fall into another classification.
