Buffalo Sculpin  (Enophrys bison)

Buffalo Sculpin are named for the prominent horn-like spines that come off their gill covers (one pointing up and one down). They will display the spines when threatened or handled.

Buffalo Sculpin can very greatly in pattern and coloring to fit their surroundings. They can be identified by a variety of recognizable features including a notable flat, snub face, a small mouth with the corners extending to just below the eye, and a total absence of cirri. Capable of reaching over a foot in length, they are abundant in the cold waters of the norther pacific coast.
